Happy New Year and a great big hello to old and new subscribers.

I hope 2024 is treating you all well so far?

I’m happy to be starting the year with a cover reveal of my next book!

Little Lion Girl is a really special story written by super talented Olivia Hope, and I had a lot of fun illustrating it.

Some of you might remember my early colour plan (below) for the book, that I shared in my last Woodcock Dispatch. It really helped me get a feel of the book and I more or less stuck to it.

The story celebrates the city, and although this was mainly an abstract colour exploration, it also hints at the sunshine and shapes of an exciting city.

It’s not out until 20th June 2024, so I won’t say too much just yet. But it feels good to at least let you know what I’ve been working on. It was a really involved project with lots of new things I’ve not tackled in picture books before, and I’m pleased with how it’s all come together.

Studio, Snoopy and Elvis

This is a pic of a corner of my studio - My old rack with random bits of work and inspiration that slowly evolves over the years. (There will be a full post about it one day!)

The puffer coat image was my 2023 Christmas card and the little Snoopy rubbers at the bottom of the picture were bought at the wonderful Good Grief, Charlie Brown! exhibition at Somerset House a few years ago. (Good Grief, it was so brilliant, I’d love to spend another day there!)

I went to the Snoopy exhibition with a lovely friend who I’ve not seen for far too long. I’d been thinking I should get in touch with her, and out of the blue she invited me last week to view the livestream of her wedding ceremony at the world famous Graceland wedding chapel in Las Vegas. It was a gorgeous unexpected moment to join in with from my studio, and perfect as I’m admittedly still in hibernation mode. (And a sucker for I Can’t Help Falling In Love at the best of times).
